This week, we're focusing on ADAPTABILITY!
ADAPTABILITY is eagerly embracing a change in plans without complaint. The opposite of ADAPTABILITY is INFLEXIBILITY, holding tightly to something that prevents me from embracing an alternative.
Play Dough is a great illustration to help kids understand adaptability. Do a hands-on activity with the kids and challenge them to make different shapes: a ball, a pancake, a snake, a cube, etc.
Play Dough changes easily. It's adaptable!
Ask the kids to think of a time when they've been asked to be adaptable. Maybe they're busy playing and their parent tells them to get their shoes on so everyone can leave the house. Or bring up a specific scenario that is challenging for your kids. Ask the kids how they should respond if they're being adaptable.
Remember to share examples from your own life. When is it hard for you to "go with the flow" and be adaptable?
What tips and tricks do you have to help your kids adapt to a change in plans? Share it in the comments!
